Painting Water: Elements to Consider

Welcome to this topic of painting water. It is quit a strange idea of how to paint something that is transparent. But there are factors that add up and when put together, make up the illusion of water.

So, working from the water line furthest away from you but coming towards you, that area would be mainly of a slightly darker tone of the sky colour, mirroring what’s above. Then the nearest area before you (forewater), becomes less of the sky reflection and more of what you see under the water.

This can be made as a slight blend as you transition from the “sky reflection”, to a more detailed area of what’s under the water surface further enhanced directly in front of you…
